She is also the founder of the Society of Endometriosis and Eastern European Fertility and the president of the Romanian Society of Urogynecology. Dr Pawel Basta is a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics and gynecological oncology. Currently, he works at the University Hospital in Krakow as Deputy of a Head of the Department of Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology. He serves also a lecturer at Chair of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the Jagiellonian University, Collegium Medicum at the same time.

Onspring of Dr Basta’s professional career are related to the Gynaecological University Clinic LMU in Munich, where he first encountered a modern diagnostics and treatment of women with breast cancer. He worked at the renowned University College London Hospital in the UK as a scholarship holder of a grant from the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology in 2012. He has been involved in early diagnosis of a breast cancer along with oncoplastic and reconstructive surgical treatment of women with this cancer. Currently, his main areas of scientific and professional interest are surgery for cancer of the female reproductive organs and minimally invasive surgery for advanced and deep endometriosis.

He has been appointed as a Vice-President of the Polish Society of Gynaecological Oncology since 2021; he also serves as Chairman of a Senological Section of the Polish Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians and a Board member of an Endometriosis Section of this Society.

Dr Pawel Basta has been appointed as the Provincial Consultant in the field of gynecological oncology for Małopolska region since August 2023.

He was appointed as an expert to endometriosis working group by the Minister of Health for developing a care pathway for women with endometriosis in March 2023.

Dr Fiona Cousins is an early career scientist at the Hudson Institute of Medical research (Melbourne, Australia) whose current research focuses on understanding the pathology of endometriosis with the overall aim of discovering new therapeutic targets.

Dr Cousins worked in industry (biomanufacturing) before pursuing a PhD and postdoctoral work at the University of Edinburgh, where she specialised in the regulation of endometrial repair and regeneration during menstruation. Dr Cousins was recruited to the Hudson Institute in 2015, to investigate the role of endometrial stem cells in endometrial repair and their contributions to endometriosis pathogenesis. Dr Cousins currently leads an Australian National Health and Medical Research Council Ideas Grant (2023-2026) investigating the therapeutic potential of a novel type I interferon, IFNε, for endometriosis treatment. Her endometriosis research has been recognised by the World Endometriosis Society, awarded the prestigious David Healy Award for Best Scientific Presentation at the 14th World Congress of Endometriosis (2021) and a highly commended prize for Best Presentation by a Young Investigator at the 15th World Congress of Endometriosis (2023); she was also shortlisted in the Top 30 applicants in the L’Oreal UNESCO Women in Science Fellowship (2019).

She has a strong interest in women's health and the promotion of women in science, and regularly contributes to community outreach activities, such as co-ordinating Hudson’s Young Women in Science mentoring programme, writing on endometriosis for The Conversation (2020) and appearing as a subject expert on 3RRR radio’s recent special broadcast on endometriosis (2023).

Lydia Coxon is a post-doc researcher in the Pain in Women and the EndoCaRe research groups at the University of Oxford. Prior to this she did a DPhil (PhD) with these groups entitled ‘Neuropathic Pain in Endometriosis’.

Her work investigates pain mechanisms in pelvic pain. She has particularly worked on endometriosis-associated pain and how stratification of patients can aid our understanding and inform our treatment of women with endometriosis-associated pain. She is now working on a project investigating dysmenorrhea (period pain) in adolescents.

Prof. Caterina Exacoustos was born in Rome, Italy, from German father and Italian mother and has greek grand-grand father. She is an associate Professor of Ob/Gyn at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy. She received her medical degree at the Catholic University of Rome in 1984 and completed in 1989 the Ob/Gyn residency and then a fellowship in obstetric and gynecological ultrasound in the same university. During that time her clinical and research interest was mostly on perinatal medicine and she had several important publications in this field. She has been attached since 1993 to the University of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’ in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology initially as research fellow then as researcher and now as associate professor. Since 1993 working with endoscopic surgical teams she test the advantages of the use of transvaginal ultrasound as presurgical diagnostic tool and for an accurate management of gynecological diseases. She spends also in 2010 a sabbatical year in US at the University of Connecticut as invited professor teaching 3D transvaginal ultrasound. Actually her main areas of interest are endometriosis and benign diseases including uterine pathology and infertility. She has published more than 150 scientific articles of more than 100 peer reviewed and more than 15 book chapters both in English and in Italian. She has been invited to numerous scientific meetings and conferences of gynecological pathology as speaker in Europe and USA. After a postdoctoral research period at the Department of Cell Biology of Harvard Medical School and Children’s Hospital Boston, USA, he became a group leader at the Institute of Physiological Chemistry and Pathobiochemistry of Münster University. Since 2003, he holds a tenured position as head of the research laboratory of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of Münster University Hospital. His main areas of research cover various aspects of reproductive biology and gynaecological oncology. A particular research focus is on the molecular mechanisms of endometriosis, exploring the role of adult stem cells and microRNAs in the pathogenic process. Methodological approaches include histopathological biomarker studies, the use of knockout mouse diseases models, patient-derived primary cells and cell lines, which are investigated using a broad range of cell biological, biochemical and molecular biological techniques.
